Andrea Kerstens
“Shadow Archive”
In Shadow Archive (2025), silhouettes and perspectives merge organically. A collection of cut-out shapes, as if peeled straight from a sticker sheet, are naively placed and adhere to another surface. Irises, shells, and statues of goddesses merge into new forms. In an interplay between positive and negative space, Shadow Archive explores the tension between the recognizable and the abstract-between what remains of these symbolically charged forms and the new ones that emerge.
Andrea Kerstens (1995) is a visual artist living and working in Brussels. Kerstens’ practice explores the performative nature of symbols, objects, and materials. By copying, multiplying, enlarging, moving, and documenting, she investigates how meanings change and narratives emerge.
After completing her Master’s degree in Fine Arts at LUCA School of Arts (2019), Kerstens participated in exhibitions such as Saints and Sinners (Grand Hospice, 2024), Passage (Werkplaats Walter, 2023), Exponential Growth (GALLERY GALLERY, 2022), Acting on Behalf of Thinking (PINK Manchester, UK, 2021), and Art Au Centre #6 (Liège, 2021).
